In tonight’s episode of Lost, the story takes a turn that seems like a reference to Kurt Vonnegut’s book Slaughterhouse Five. In Vonnegut’s book, Billy Pilgrim, like Desmond becomes “unstuck in time,” traveling between differing parts of his life. Anyone else see the connection? If so, let us know in the comments below.

Ha! Yeah, the entire episode I kept thinking, “This is so Slaughterhouse-Five!”

I was very surprised the book did not make a cameo somewhere.

Totally. Faraday even told Des that he was “unstuck in time,” which made me laugh.

yeah, did anyone catch how minkowski’s first name was ‘billy’? as in ‘billy pilgrim’ from slaughterhouse five as well as the whole army reference, not that we didn’t know that desmond was in the army.

    i’m loving the literary connections.

  4. mikey b Says:

sorry, forget the ‘billy’ reference to minkowski, i could have sworn i heard him say his name was billy.

I thought the same thing. There was one reference, though…Desmond’s friend in the military was named Billy.

yep, on the nose, is time seen as it was on Tralfalmadore, no Future no Past all time is not linear. so there are infinite numbers of Dez along the line all existing in the present?

The entire time I was watching the episode on the ship….I thought a Vonnegut ripoff…or rather an homage to to Slaughterhouse Five. I kept telling my friends. This is Slaughterhouse Five! I heard Huh? I need new friends.
