TouchType - Updates and Beta Opportunities

Uncategorized

Thanks to everyone that has sent positive feedback about TouchType. The app is now ranked #17 in the US App Store, and has made solid showings in countries around the world.

This post is to announce some updates to the application that I am hoping will be approved by Apple within the next couple weeks and go live as a free update:

1) The next version of TouchType will include the ability to send text to Apple’s Notes program and will include the ability to save snippets of text for reuse.

2) I am also working on better support for non-Latin based keyboards. In the next version the plan is for users to be able to toggle through a number of keyboard types.

BETA TEST OPPORTUNITIES:

It is difficult to beta test programs for the iPhone, but for my next iPhone program, I am working on a system that will allow for better feedback, particularly in other countries. The upside for beta-testers is that the app wouldn’t cost the testers anything, plus a chance to see what is coming out early. If you are interested in beta testing my next app, please send me an email at beta@thisistech .com. Please let me know which country you are in, since a major goal of the next test will be identifying international issues early. I won’t spam you, but may contact with information my upcoming products that need testing.

When will this be available for text applications?

    Nice program!

    Here are two problem areas:

    1. When using Umlauts (i.e. holding the letter a and then selecting the รค from the popup list) the program crashes always.

    2. When the autocorrect is on the last line, the correction that is suggested cannot be read nor cancelled. The correction will show under the keyboard and only a very small portion (not enough to select) is visible. That is very annoying.

Otherwise a nice implementation. Would be even nicer if it has bullet and ordered list capabilities.

Also a autokey funtion would be grand, where frequently used text segments could be inserted on a “hotkey” combination.

    Thanks,
    HD from Oregon

I’m having a problem with Touchtype: It’s a great idea for longer emails. But, I’ve drafted fairly long replies to emails and then when I push the “send” button, my mail program opens and only the beginning of what I typed in touchtype shows up.

Also, when I do a “reply all” in the “cc” secion it just says “7 recepients” but I don’t know if it’s going to send to those people b/c their email address don’t show. Please help. Thanks

This is a great app, thanks for the quality software. The latest update has some nice features. I have two feature requests that I think will add considerable value to the app.

    1) Add an option to force landscape. I am never going to use Touchtype in portrait mode, pretty much by definition. Yet because of the workflow as I exit the mail app and hit the Touchtype icon it is going to load up in portrait mode and then detect the rotation and animate its way to landscape. Ithink many of your users are power users like me who will appreciate an option to gain speed by having the app always start in landscape mode.

    2) You simply must hot up your icon for the app. I get the whole touch type thing, but your app is front and center on my main page (be proud!) and that old typewriter sticks out like a sore thumb, in a bad way. My iPhone and all of the surrounding apps are fresh, tech and designed. And hen there is poor Touchtype. Modern it up!
